My study found no evidence for this and concluded the opposite – which was that boys had the same coping strategies as girls, namely limited resistance within accommodation. I was left, then, with a new hypothesis about coping strategies – which states that no matter how good the coping strategies of African-Caribbean boys they will always end up subject to negative discipline. The boys I interviewed at John Caxton helped raise the key issues for my main study in terms of methodology and the research focus. ‘Township’ School is a boys’ comprehensive school with a roll of 497.
